Time Warp in Blind Bay

What day is it?!

We've been nestled in Blind Bay for 3 days, off of Shaw Island. Time has stood still. The days run on and we're blind to time. When we untied from the dock in Friday Harbor last Wednesday at 10:20 am, we weren't even quite sure where we were headed. Just the way we like it. I mean, Jon had some ideas. I had some ideas. But nothing decided. I had been meaning to bring my electric cargo bike to Shaw Island with Jude for a little spin this winter but, somehow, never found the time to do it. So, I had my eye on this nook of the islands.

So glad we came here! It's a hazy spring dream. It's about the calmest anchorage we've experienced in the San Juan Island group, given it's proximity to ferry landings. At the mouth of the bay is Blind Island State Park —an exquisite little mound as wide a stone's throw. It's blooming with purple camus flowers right now. Little succulents line the west side of the island (I'm a sucker for succulents.) There are several campsites about the island, but no people in sight except for a scattering of boats in the bay. We're still early in the season here.

Yesterday was a bit rainy, and while we are not deterred by rain, we kept it mellow and cozy. I did some work on my laptop. We read. Watched some solar powered movies. Made some comfort food. Delightful!

2 days ago we ventured onto Shaw Island, accessed by a public though not well distinguished beach, followed by a 30 minute walk to Shaw County Park. Excellent beach time for Jude, with a few other kids to play with. Lots of nettle along the walk—better to teach Jude now.

The purple camus flowers mixed with some daisies and pinkies.

S/V Decision is sitting pretty today! The solar panel on top of our transom has been immensely useful in charging our Goal Zero generator ... for 3 days we've charged ALL THE THINGS on sun!

My friend Ben loaned us his Porta Bote and propane powered outboard. Porta Bote for the win!

Jude soaking in the sun while munching on some Avo.

Pretty much the best cat ever, found near the ferry landing. Bright blue eyes!

The beach near the ferry landing, miners lettuce scattered on the foot path. Only land here in your dingy if you plan to shop in the store. Pay them if you want to leave it for awhile to explore Shaw Island.

We picked some fennel near Anacortes Marina last week, and have been working it into this and that the last few days! Super fragrant. Pulled pork in a pressure cooker + wild fennel. Yum!

Elise's happy place.

Jude experimenting with some crab arms and succulents. Can't blame him.

LOVE these dudes! They WRANGLED a kite today ...

Jon's a serious kite wrangler! I'm in love with his natural kite stance ...
